The poor bluebirds are doing battle constantly. The Grackles and Sparrows just won't leave them alone. I've tried my best to help them out but the bottom line is, I have to let Mother Nature take its course and as I've said on here before - it's a cruel, cruel world.
I bought a 6 pound pork whole Boston Butt yesterday at the grocery store and am putting it in the crockpot. Oh, it will be so yummy for supper but what's even more delicious will be the barbecue I make with what's left after dinner. I've been craving barbecue now for a couple months and when the pork came on sale I jumped on it. I can taste it now. It looked like such a beautiful day when I rolled out of bed this morning that I knew there was no way I would be in the house for long so a crock pot "something" is perfect.

Bummer, the Boston Butt has not thawed enough so I've also decided to make some Sloppy Joes for supper. I'm not only ready for supper tonight, I will now be ready for tomorrow, Saturday, with the Boston Butt and Sunday, with barbecue.
I have a hotbox(hotbed) outside and usually I plant lettuce and spinach in it in the Fall but this last Fall I left it empty. My husband built the hotbox for me. It's just a box with a sliding glass door on top which I can lift to vent. We have also lined it to keep a lot of the warmth in. Today I went out and cleaned out all the chickweed that had grown up in the box. I want to plant some early lettuce and spinach. Speaking of chickweed, did you know that chickweed is delicious? I make a mean Chickweed Dip and it's a wonderful potherb as well. Just cook it up like spinach. I'm telling you, honestly it's good! It's also great fresh in salads! The only thing is to make sure you cut it while it's young and tender. It's very, very good! Nothing like eating your weeds! That's like the ultimate "getting even"!!
I also checked on the strawberry patch. Last year was rough on our brand new strawberry plants. I was so disappointed as I watched them shrivel from the lack of rain. As far as I can tell today, it looks as though many of them survived and what did not can be replaced by new runners - so I'm ever-so-grateful.
I can't wait until tomorrow - it's supposed to be so nice!
